BMW R100 Racer 1981

For sale is a magnificent 1981 BMW R100, which has been substantially and expertly rebuilt into a premium road-going Cafe Racer. The mechanical backbone and execution of this custom project were trusted entirely to the legendary Steve Scriminger, a globally renowned BMW airhead specialist and race engineering guru. Combining the classic silhouette of the iconic 980cc boxer engine with a stripped-back, high-performance cafe racer stance, this machine has been thoroughly modernised to stop, go, and handle impeccably.

Mechanically, the engine has undergone a comprehensive full engine rebuild utilizing high-compression pistons (9.5:1), new big ends, piston rings, and completely reworked twin-plug heads fitted with new valves, guides, and unleaded seats. To maximize performance, it features a 336° sport camshaft, an oil pump modification, and breaths through massive 40mm Dellorto carburettors. The electronics have been thoroughly brought into the modern era via a Boyer digital ignition setup paired with high-output Dyna coils. All other internal engine components have been meticulously measured and verified well within factory tolerance.

The drivetrain and chassis have received the exact same uncompromising treatment. The gearbox has been fully rebuilt with a new selector fork, new bearings, and a new input bearing. The stance and handling have been completely transformed using ZZR 600 front forks held back by high-performance 4-pot Brembo calipers for immense stopping power. The bike rides on modern front and rear tyres laced to alloy rims with stainless steel spokes. Visually, the cafe racer aesthetic is beautifully nailed with a distinctive Ducati 900 SS front fairing, matching Ducati 900 SS stainless steel silencers, and a custom, one-of-a-kind home-made seat unit and tank extension.
