Broadening its range of models, Laverda launched the new Alpino 350/500 middleweight twins in 1977. Boasting twin overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, a six-speed gearbox, triple disc brakes, an electric starter and cast alloy wheels, the Alpino was state of the art for its day but handicapped, in the UK at least, by a price that pitted it against much larger machines from Japan. Relatively few were sold in the UK and they remain a rare sight in this country today.
